IASC has partnered with Surf Expo to launch a donation drive contest at their September show...

IASC has partnered with Surf Expo to launch a donation drive contest at their September show. Surf Expo attendees have a great opportunity to help at-risk youth while clearing their shelves of used or excess skate decks, wheels and trucks.

The mechanics are simple: bring your functional used or excess product to the IASC booth at Surf Expo and Just One Board will assemble and distribute it to at-risk youth around the country with the help of skate shops and youth organizations.

As an incentive, IASC has secured $1,000 MSRP worth of current and first-quality product from IASC Member companies as prizes for the Just One Board contest at Surf Expo. A first-place prize of $500 worth of product will be given for the most trucks donated. A second-place prize of $300 worth of product will be for the most wheels and bearings donated. Finally, third place ($200) will be given to the shop donating the most decks.

According to Surf Expo brand manager Sean O'Brien, "Surf Expo is happy to participate in this program, which ultimately helps grow the entire market. We encourage all our retailers to collect used skate gear from their customers and then bring those donation with them to Surf Expo where it will be given new life through the Just One Board program."

Surf Expo will not only serve as a point for the collection of skate gear, but will also facilitate the shipping of donated product back to the IASC offices where it will be refurbished and then distributed. Components can be used, but need to be in functional condition. Wheels need to be zip-tied in sets of four and trucks in sets of two.

IASC will also be signing up shops to participate in the Just One Board program year-round by providing collection bins developed in conjunction with I Ride I Recycle. Now all used equipment and even broken skateboards can have a second life. We hope to see you in Orlando!

On Go Skateboarding Day, June 21st, the Go Skateboarding Foundation launched our new initiative Just One Board in New Orleans' Lower 9th Ward...

On Go Skateboarding Day, June 21st, the Go Skateboarding Foundation launched our new initiative Just One Board in New Orleans' Lower 9th Ward by distributing over 700 complete skateboards to underprivileged kids at All Souls Church, The Village Community Center and MLK Charter School. Just One Board is a skateboard-recycling program created to benefit underprivileged youth, engage skateboarders with their local community, support skateboard retailers and serve as the base of a campaign promoting the positive power of skateboarding.

We're headed back to New Orleans to celebrate the grand opening of the DEWeezy skatepark at the Village on August 29th and distribute 300 more skateboards to kids in the Lower 9th - bringing the total to 1000 completes distributed to new skateboarders in New Orleans!

IASC and Just One Board did it all with the help of Tim Duggan of Make it Right, Mack McLendon from the Village, James Lapuyade of Preservation Skateboards, Peter Whitley from the Tony Hawk Foundation and the GLU Agency who all helped pull together the multitude of moving pieces in New Orleans.

A huge debt of gratitude goes out to everyone that made the Just One Board Launch possible - especially NHS, Creature, OJ Wheels, Flip, Bullet, Mob Grip, Sector 9, Destructo, Ruckus Trucks, Loaded Boards, Alien Workshop, Habitat, Almost, Cliché, Darkstar, Enjoi and AdamsMorioka for their donations to the program and a very special thanks to Dwindle Distribution for assembling the bulk of the skateboards for the New Orleans event.

Special thanks also to Charles and Slick from the Village, Tyler Culberston, Dickie Munczenski, Mike Shannon, all the volunteers from the Valley Ranch Baptist Church in Dallas, Mountain Dew, Philly and Humidity Skateshop, Reno, Jeff and Urban Nine and the World Industries team for making this a super fun, successful event for the kids.

The 5th Annual IASC Skateboarding Summit was our most successful event to date...

The 5th Annual IASC Skateboarding Summit was our most successful event to date. We had over 100 of the industry's best and brightest in attendance for two days of education, networking and fun.

The fun was headlined by premieres of Waiting for Lightning, Bones Brigade: An Autobiography and the 3rd Annual Skateboarding Hall of Fame and Icon Awards. Nearly 400 people from every generation of skateboarding packed the ballroom to honor Hall of Fame Inductees Danny Bearer, Peggy Oki, Jay Adams, Mark Gonzales and Icon Award winners John Humprey, Frank Nasworthy, Glen E. Friedman and Black Flag.

The action was capped off by some amazing skating across the street at Vans as Pedro Barros edged out Rune Glifberg for the win at the Pro Tec Pool Party Contest. It felt like 1988 as the Bones Brigade once again asserted their dominance with Cab, Tony and Lance going 1, 2, 3 in the Master's Division.

We're in the process of finalizing arrangements for next year's Summit, stay tuned for all the info on what is quickly becoming the can't miss industry event of the year.
