Commitees/Directors
IASC Committees
IASC has several committees directed by board members and staffed with volunteers that help IASC in its mission to Push Skateboarding Forward. All of the committees are dedicated to promoting, skateboarding increasing participation, saving members money and education.
Some of our highest profile committees include the Skatepark Committee, the Youth Committee and the Marketing Committee.
The Skatepark Committee campaigns for more and well-designed skateboard parks. This committee is also leading the development of IASC's Skatepark Development Assistance Guide a publication that will assist cities and others interested in building a park.
IASC's Youth Committee serves to get more kids involved in skateboarding through promotions including Career Days, Learn to Skate Days, Scholarships, and more.
- Career Day: IASC takes elementary school children on tours to member companies, where they learn how a skateboard business is operated
- Learn to Skate Day : IASC partners with skateboard instructors and skateparks to teach kids how to skate.
- Scholarships: One of IASC's priorities is to encourage youth participation in skateboarding and recognizing kids who contribute to skateboarding. The following are the scholarships presented in 2005.
IASC donated $2,500 in scholarships to the Patrick Kerr Skateboard Scholarship which was distributed as follows:
- Sean Neafsey received $1,000 to attend Manhattan College-Engineering School and major in environmental engineering. Sean helped to get a public skatepark at Rockaway Beach in Queens New York City.
- Daniel Caridi received $1,000 to attend the Art Institute of Boston. He will major in photography. The ninth grader started a petition for a skatepark, lobbied and raised funds to get the park, completed in Fall 2004.
- Mackenzie Brown received $500 to attend the State University of New York in Buffalo . She will major in veterinary medicine. Mackenzie started a petition for a public park, researched park design, raised funds and testified before the town council in Tinton Falls , New Jersey.
Marketing committee: The marketing committee directs IASC's branding, tradeshow visibility, and events. It also directs the most successful skateboarding participation with Go Skateboarding Day GSD--- Marketing also is responsible for the branding of IASC
Fundraising committee Assists IASC in raising money for youth skateboarding scholarships, charities, and administration costs.
- IASC's 2005 Casino Night Fundraiser's $3,000 scholarship will send six to 10 kids to skateboard camp.
- IASC presented its annual $2,500 to the Tony Hawk Foundation.
- IASC raised $1500 to benefit Hurricane Katrina victims.
Accounting committee Keeps IASC's financials in order.
Membership committee Recruits and maintains members.
Benefits committee recruits new service providers for its members to save them money
International Membership committee A team that recruits members globally.
Media committee Helps keep skateboarding in the spotlight.
Olympic committee Oversees plans for skateboarding in the Olympics and the National Amateur Championships.
Safety committee Advocates beneficial skateboarding equipment.
Pro Skateboarding committee Helps line up pro skateboarders for various events.
Governance committee Lines up IASC's trademarks and other intellectual property.
Political Advocacy committee Working with City and State governments for favorable skateboarding rules and more skateparks. Works with other organizations, and individuals, to develop the best possible safety laws in the state.
